The date for the Midcentury Modern show is fast approaching and I am surrounded by unfinished jobs, prints to print, ladder shelves to paint, foamex flats to wallpaper, bench to upholster, a new screen that I haven't had a chance to test yet. On the plus side I am very glad to have found a lovely person to sew cushions for me, and I am having tea-towels printed for me, whether they will arrive in time for MCM I do not know. It will all come together, I keep telling myself.

In the meantime I find time to waste looking at new favourite blog from Finland  weekday carnival - I want to move to Finland!

Midcentury Modern is on 20th November at Dulwich College London SE21. If all goes to plan I will be wallpapering my small corner of it upstairs. A great day out, it would be lovely to see you there!

day at the fair

We took a trip up the Renegade Craft Fair on Brick Lane this weekend, lots of lovely crafts to see, buy and do, although a bit overwhelming when it's all in one place. Robert is still puzzling over the sight of a table full of needle felters. It was nice to have a chat with robin&mould, their perky foxes and sleepy owls were a familiar sight and stood out amongst the cuteness. We followed up with lunch at the Story Deli in Redchurch Street, amazing frilly pizzas served in a space that is casual and romantic and slightly chaotic.

I have to say I was quite relieved to be just looking at the craft fair and not selling, although on that note I will be wallpapering a small corner of the Mid-Century Modern Show on 20th November where I have taken an upstairs space. Plenty of work to do!

There was plenty to see at the Midcentury Modern Show and not too many crowds this year, maybe because there is going to be a second show in north London in May. My favourite stands upstairs among the contemporary designers were lovely printed textiles from Maria Hatling and Eleanor Prichards' beautiful wool blankets woven in Wales. And it was really nice to catch up with Sally Nencini who was selling her knitted wares. I came away with a 60's Danish office chair in a very sunny shade of yellow. My office is in a very dark corner so it really cheers it up. I may make a cushion pad out of this vintage fabric.

mid century overload

I went to the Mid-Century Modern show yesterday. Held twice yearly at our local Hogwarts-style school, it showcases over 75 sellers of amazing mid-century furniture, design, collectables, books, textiles, ceramics, glassware, pots and pans. It is really worth going to for an overwhelming choice of lovely stuff!  So overwhelming that I ended up spending my £10 on something not modern at all, the simple handmade quality of this embroidered linen panel stood out among the shiny glass and teak.
